Under 21 Hurling Championship
Ardrahan 2-8 Athenry 0-13
The club's under 21 hurling team lost their opening game of the championship, by the narrowest of margins, to Ardrahan at Kinvara on Saturday.
The first half was even enough with Athenry holding their own against a strong wind and valuable points by Paddy Hannon and Cathal Keane. They dominated the early stages of the second half but three missed opportunities of scoring goals were to prove costly.
Jonathan Glynn found the net from a 20 meter free for Ardrahan which lifted his side and they held on at the end for a well deserved victory.
Only a handful of the Athenry team played anywhere near their full potential and they now face a huge challenge to remain in the championship.

Galway squander chances to win in second half
Galway 1-8 Louth 0-11
Louth staged an excellent second-half comeback to leave Pearse Stadium with a share of the spoils after Galway failed to live up to a lively early display. Galway kicked just two points in the second half and were lucky to escape with a draw as Louth had ample chances to take the win.
The Tribesmen held a 1-5 to 0-2 lead in the 20th minute when Danny Cummins goaled after collecting a rebound off the post, but after building on that lead with four points on the bounce, Alan Mulholland's side disappeared from contention altogether.
One of Galway's strongest performers, Garreth Bradshaw, showed Galway supporters what he was made from with a great point on the run seven minutes from time, but Jim McEneaney levelled from an acute angle to seal the point for the Leinster men.

Kilkenny too good for Galway youth
Kilkenny 2-20 Galway 1-14
It may have only been the Walsh Cup that was on offer at Pearse Stadium yesterday, but Kilkenny showed the hunger of old as they swept past a disappointing Galway. Brian Cody was back on the sideline and with 13 of his All-Ireland winning side getting a run at some stage, it was hardly a surprise that they eased their way to their 18th Walsh Cup.
But the task facing Anthony Cunningham and his management team as they try to rebuild the Tribesmen was all too apparent.
Richie Power led the way with 11 points, most of them from frees, and he tormented the home defence with some strong running and astute passing.
Galway managed to rally in the third quarter and came within three points at one stage but Eoin Larkin ended any notions of a comeback when he finished to the net after Cillian Buckley dispossessed Galway goalkeeper James Skehill.
Scorers -- Kilkenny: R Power 0-11 (8f, 1 '65'), R Hogan 1-3, E Larkin 1-1, J Mulhall, C Fennelly 0-2 each, P Hogan 0-1f. Galway: J Canning 0-9 (8f), J Regan 1-1, D Burke 0-2, B Burke, C Cooney 0-1 each.

Boost for Galway as Joyce returns.
Pádraic Joyce is set set to extend his tenure with the Galway footballers after recovering from an Achilles injury.
The news will be a boost to new boss Alan Mulholland as he looks to make the Tribesmen more competitive this year in both league and championship. Padraic is expected to resume training in the coming weeks.

Galway introduced several young players, including Thomas Flynn, to the National Football League on Sunday against Derry. Alan Mulholland watched his team grow in confidence throughout, aided in no small way by a magnificent second half by Nicky Joyce.
A Gareth Brashaw goal in first half gave Galway the lead which they held on to thanks some great point scoring by Michael Martin, Mark Hehir and Nickey Joyce. Thomas Flynn had a solid game at midfield sending some some great passes to his forwards.

Joe Canning fired Galway into the Walsh Cup final and past a lacklustre Laois in a sodden Duggan Park in Ballinasloe yesterday.
Canning hit 1-10 of his side’s tally, but was ably assisted by Conor Cooney – in just his second appearance for the Tribesmen – and substitute James Regan who blasted 1-2 for Anthony Cunningham’s side, who meet Kilkenny in next week’s final. Conor Burke came on in the closing stages making his first appearance for the senior team.

St. Mary’s GAA Club caters for over two hundred juvenile and one hundred adult players in both codes at all grades. Our aim is to provide the youth in our community with the best possible opportunity to develop their skills at sport and leadership under the guidence of fully qualified trainers and coaches.

Three years ago the club embarked on a development programme to develop badly needed training grounds at Carnaun and upgrade the existing pitch and lighting. This work has now been completed providing our juvenile and adult players, who play hurling and football, with new modern and safe facilities for training and games.

To finance the project, which is extensively used, the club had to borrow a large portion of the cost. We are now making this special request to all our supporters and friends to help us reduce this debt as quickly as possible. If you are not already actively involved with our Club, we are appealing to you to volunteer to join the many dedicated voluntary officials and workers who are committed to the promotion of our games.Their strong sense of pride and loyalty in our local community will enable the Club to achieve its full potential and help meet some of the challenges ahead for our youth.

The GAA has published a discussion paper to open a frank and honest debate within the Association before firm proposals to deal with the question of unregulated payments to managers and others can be brought forward.
In doing so there are two main objectives:
To engender debate and reflection on an issue that can no longer be ignored, such are the implications for the values that the GAA espouses and seeks genuinely to embody;
To benefit from the ideas that will emerge from this debate, so as to allow the Association to formulate a policy on the issue of payments to managers and management teams.
