| County Minor Hurling Final |
|
Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry 2-15. Athenry 1-14
Two goals just before half-time helped Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry win their first ever county Minor A title at Pearse Stadium. Both sides gave an exhibition of all the skills of hurling that provided great entertainment for spectators. The winners had an eight point lead at the interval and despite a heroic second half, Athenry, last year’s champions, could not pull it back the lead. To their credit they never gave up and fought courageously to the final whistle, indeed it took three top class saves from the Tynagh –Abbey -Duniry goalkeeper to keep them at bay. A disappointing end for these lads who have represented the Club with great honour throughout the year and conducted themselves with dignity in defeat to an excellent Tynagh-Abbey Duniry side who are to be congratulated in winning a historic first Minor A title. Athenry: D. Fahy, O. McLoughlin, D. O'Halloran, T. Duane, D. Hynes, D. Healy, P. Hannon, A. Higgins (0-3-frees), C. Hardiman, A. Van Niekerk, (0-2), D. Higgins, C. Keane (0-5-2 frees), M. | Brendan O'Driscoll R.I.P. Members of the Club extend their deep condolences to Jamie O'Driscoll on the death of his brother, Kerry club footballer, Brendan who passed away on Wednesday at Cork University Hospital. Brendan collapsed unchallenged 10 minutes into the second half of Annascaul’s West Kerry championship match at Lispole the previous Sunday and never regained consciousness. At 28 years of age, the talented sportsman who also played with the divisional West Kerry team, had scored 1-1 of his team’s tally in last weekend’s game. The Club also extend condolences to his uncle Tommy Doyle, who was the guest of our club two years ago, his parents Vincent and Mary, brothers Vincent, Chris, Michael and sister Aisling. |
