Galway beat Sligo IT in a rain and wind swept Ballyhaunis in the opening game of the Connacht FBD League. Playing against the elements in the opening half Galway trailed at the break by three points 0-3 to 0-6 with points from Shane Maughan 0-2 and Conor Halloran.
The second half saw Maughan goal early on and points followed from Fintan O'Curraoin, Thomas Flynn, Niall Coleman and Paul Conroy to give Alan Mullholland charges a three point win 1-7 to 0-7.
