Galway finish well to retain Camogie Title

Galway senior  camogie  team  secured  their fourth All-Ireland crown after a magnificent three-point victory over Cork at Croke Park. In an extremely tight and tense finish to the Final, Galway showed terrific composure, resolve and character in the last ten minutes to deservedly claim the O'Duffy Cup.

True grit was the order of the day particularly when Cork appeared to be taking control at a crucial stage of the second half. However, the ladies from the west simply refused to be beaten and displayed a fantastic display of steely resolve to win. When it came to the crunch, the Tribeswomen answered the questions asked of them to get over the line impressively.

Captain and full back Sarah Dervan achieved a unique piece of history by  becoming the first Galway player ever to lift the O’Duffy Cup as captain on two occasions. Having already climbed the steps of the Hogan Stand and part of a very select group of Galway captains Imelda Hobbins (1996) and Lorraine Ryan (2013) to have experienced the honour.

Athenry were well represented, especially by cornerback Dervla Higgins, who was outstanding and Noreen Coen also played her part when coming on in the hectic closing stages. Former All-Star and All-Ireland winner Therese Maher was part of the team management .
